Cybi Striders

We are a friendly running club based on Anglesey, North Wales. Established over 30 years ago, we pride ourselves on being a friendly club where everyone is welcome – regardless of ability or experience. We have runners who are fast, slow, young, old and all stages in between!

We meet every Monday and Wednesday from various locations on the island – just turn up and give us a try! Visiting runners welcome!

We race regularly in road, fell, trail and cross county… in all weathers!

Take a browse across our website and feel free to contact us.

Who are we?

We are a running club based on Anglesey that welcomes all runners, regardless of ability. We meet every Monday in Llangefni at 6:30pm and every Wednesday at 6:30pm at one of our weekly locations to run 4-6 miles.

Club Members regularly take part in local running events as well as travelling throughout the UK and abroad to run. The Club is part of the Borders League, a North Wales and North West running competition, as well as being part of the North Wales Cross Country League.

In addition to taking part in running events, we also meet up for regular training events, social runs and nights out. The Club has also hosted several successful beginners courses, which have seen runners going on to join the Club and take part in half and full marathons.

A frosty start to Valentines Day gave way to sunny weather at last and the hope of better running conditions.

The final round of the North Wales Cross Country Championships were held in Oswestry, with Irfon Rowlands finishing 2nd M55 in 38:11. The individual championship results were still to be published at the time of writing.

In the Teams Championships, Cybi Striders finished 13th in Mens Division 2 and 15th in Womens Division 2. Something for us to aim at bettering next season perhaps?

On to Sunday and Barry Smith ran the London Winter 10k for Cancer Research, finishing in 56:49. Meanwhile, Elwyn Sharps was in Manchester taking on the Media City Half Marathon, coming home in 1:53:48.

Closer to home, it was the Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno and the weather held out sufficiently for runners (don't mention the classic headwind at the top!).

Rhodri Williams was first Cybi home in 37:03 (5th overall and 3rd MSen), followed by Armon Williams (37:52) who finished in 9th overall. Ellie Evans was first Cybi lady across the line in 46:29, taking 1st place in the F40 category.

Another 18 Cybis took on the Great Orme, all running brilliant times on a very hilly course. They were:

Dylan Thomas 42:41
Dave Owen 44:48
Carwyn Jones 45:07
Gethin Williams 45:37
Mark Owen 46:48
Jessica Bibby 46:52
Sion Roberts 48:01
Richie Williams 48:28
Sion Llyr Roberts 48:46
Katie Baldwin 49:13
Rick Groome 50:14
Ian Mulligan 51:12
Sara Sawicz 51:57
Richard Furniss 54:28
Sarah Osborne 56:29
Rachel Threadkell 57:12
John Riley 1:00:04
Kevin Clark 1:00:59

Well done everyone! Club Championship standings will be updated in the next week.

In 2 weeks, it is the Anglesey Half Marathon and 10k. But if you're not running either of those, the Borders League is on in Birkenhead Park and there will be a team going and spaces available in cars for lifts.

The Club AGM is on 9th March in the Panton Arms, Pentraeth. Come and have your say on how the club is run and more; opinions always welcomed. Also, there will be pizza!!!

As ever, more info on Spond.
