Cybi Striders

We are a friendly running club based on Anglesey, North Wales. Established over 30 years ago, we pride ourselves on being a friendly club where everyone is welcome – regardless of ability or experience. We have runners who are fast, slow, young, old and all stages in between!

We meet every Monday and Wednesday from various locations on the island – just turn up and give us a try! Visiting runners welcome!

We race regularly in road, fell, trail and cross county… in all weathers!

Take a browse across our website and feel free to contact us.

Who are we?

We are a running club based on Anglesey that welcomes all runners, regardless of ability. We meet every Monday in Llangefni at 6:30pm and every Wednesday at 6:30pm at one of our weekly locations to run 4-6 miles.

Club Members regularly take part in local running events as well as travelling throughout the UK and abroad to run. The Club is part of the Borders League, a North Wales and North West running competition, as well as being part of the North Wales Cross Country League.

In addition to taking part in running events, we also meet up for regular training events, social runs and nights out. The Club has also hosted several successful beginners courses, which have seen runners going on to join the Club and take part in half and full marathons.

Spring Marathon season is well underway, with all the effort, training, early mornings and long runs finally coming to fruition for many. But, before we get to the main event, rewind to Tuesday and the TNS at Conwy.

Irfon Rowlands was first Cybi home in 37:15. Irfon was followed by Johnhuw Watkin-Hughes (40:17), Ellie Evans (41:54), Faith Patterson-Jones (47:01) and Laura McKenzie (52:40).

Barry Smith was again doubling up, with the midweek Olympic Park 5k (24:49) before heading to Crystal Palace for the 5k (26:56).

Marathon Weekend arrived but before the big day, Sonia Williams came home joint 1st in the Shropshire Way 80k in a brilliant time of 10hrs 19 mins.

Keeping with the off road theme, Irfon and Laura took on the Trawsfynydd Multi Terrain 8 Miler with Irfon coming 2nd V50 (57:23) to cap off a good week. Laura finished in 1:08:49, with Yvette Adamson (1:12:50) close behind.

The main event arrived on Sunday with Manchester Marathon 2026.

First Cybi home was Lloyd Williams in a new PB of 2:36:50; it is wonderful to see Lloyd back flying along again. Rob Mansell was next in 2:39:58, with Rhodri Williams (2:46:27) finishing 3rd Cybi. There were further PBs for Nick Houghton (3:30:53), Mel Ward-Williams (3:46:03) and Catrin Evans (4:01:40) who took on her first marathon!

Chris Thomas (3:32:54) took on Manchester once again (becoming a course specialist now), with Shane Williams (3:41:51) also recording a fantastic time. Brilliant running from everyone who got round!

But wait, there's more, well, there is more coming tomorrow..
(hint, hint, Boston Marathon). Good luck to our international runner aiming for their next Major!

Club run this week is Menai Bridge; route TBC. Race the Train entries open 6pm on 1st May, don't miss out (links will be posted). Next championship round is Rhostryfan 10k on 6th May (entries on the night).

A polite request: can all first claim members please make sure they have the right name and Cybi Striders on their race entries so they don't get missed from results (if we missed you, let us know below). Diolch!

It is London Marathon next weekend, good luck to all runners. Let us know below if you're taking part. Pob lwc!
