Cybi Striders

We are a friendly running club based on Anglesey, North Wales. Established over 30 years ago, we pride ourselves on being a friendly club where everyone is welcome – regardless of ability or experience. We have runners who are fast, slow, young, old and all stages in between!

We meet every Monday and Wednesday from various locations on the island – just turn up and give us a try! Visiting runners welcome!

We race regularly in road, fell, trail and cross county… in all weathers!

Take a browse across our website and feel free to contact us.

Who are we?

We are a running club based on Anglesey that welcomes all runners, regardless of ability. We meet every Monday in Llangefni at 6:30pm and every Wednesday at 6:30pm at one of our weekly locations to run 4-6 miles.

Club Members regularly take part in local running events as well as travelling throughout the UK and abroad to run. The Club is part of the Borders League, a North Wales and North West running competition, as well as being part of the North Wales Cross Country League.

In addition to taking part in running events, we also meet up for regular training events, social runs and nights out. The Club has also hosted several successful beginners courses, which have seen runners going on to join the Club and take part in half and full marathons.

Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend brought a heatwave and beautiful conditions, albeit a bit hot for running! Despite this, another big turnout was seen for the Mynydd Mawr Tuesday Night Series race.

Sam Gunning was the lone Cybi, finishing in 46:49. More from Sam later on...

Barry Smith was in Battersea Park for the Chase the Sun 5k, recording a good time of 24:43 on the hottest day of the week.

Friday night saw the ever popular Deganwy Dash 5 mile race alongside the Conwy estuary. First Cybi home was Armon Williams (29:08) 4th overall and 1st M35. There were also category honours for:

Gareth Southworth (34:04) 2nd M60
Emma Alofs (35:55) 1st F35

Katie Baldwin (36:51) 2nd F35

Sara Jones 42:49
Sarah Osborne 44:37
Rick Groome 44:43
Rachel Threadkell 46:35
Claire Jones 47:39
Kayley Hughes 53:52

The action didn't stop there. Come Saturday, there was more. Taking on the Abersoch 10k and the famous Tocyn Brutal hill were Gethin Williams (44:24) and Naomi James (52:39).

Further afield, Zoë Jones completed the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run Half Marathon in 1:35:35, whilst Phil Blundell was dodging Wild Deer in the Tatton Park Trail Half Marathon, finishing in 2:07:09.

As noted earlier, Sam Gunning was racing again come the weekend. Sam took on the Welsh 1000m Peaks Long Race (20 miles, with 2870m of climbing), coming home in 4:17:33 for 1st overall! Another Cybi 1st for Sam, and well done!!

There is no "official" club run this week as we're racing in the Llanrug 5k (see Spond for details), but we'll be back out on Wednesday 10th.

Good luck to everyone, wherever you're running. Stay safe and have fun!

Please help us with this our race updates by ensuring you but Cybi in as your club, or letting us know where you are running and sending a photo, Thanks

Hope everyone has had a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend and enjoyed the sunshine!

It was a very different start to the week, with the Tuesday Night Series at Ras Gyrn Wigau needing mandatory kit for the wind and rain. The sole brave Cybi was Irfon Rowlands, finishing in 53:12 (mae'n ddrwg iawn gen i am y lun, Irfon!!)

By midweek, the weather was improving in Edale, where Bob Hind was in action in the British Police Fell Race, taking 1st M70 in 1:39:15, sealing class honours for the 2nd year in a row. Da iawn Bob!

Friday night arrived and the speedy Mid Cheshire Spring 5k saw much better conditions. The Cybi contingent were led home by Gavin Stuart (14:58 for a new PB), followed by Ben Harding (16:31), Tilly Edwards (17:20), Ifan Jones (17:26), Arwel Evans (18:53) and Nick Houghton (19:10). Now that was some quick running!

Sunday saw the Edinburgh Marathon in hot and sunny conditions, with Laura McKenzie finishing in 4:09:13.

Da iawn pawb!

Club run this week is Benllech (with chips!), ahead of the sold out Deganwy Dash on Friday and Llanrug 5k on 3rd June (still places left).

Entries must be in for Llanrug by this Wednesday (28th) to count for north Wales 5k championships.
